The
membership of the Melbourne Chapter of Ikebana
International represents six different schools
of Ikebana. One of these is the Ohara School founded
in the late 18th Century by Unshin Ohara.
Unshin
Ohara explored the fields, mountains, lakes and
rivers and wanted to develop a style of Ikebana
to express the beauty of natural scenery. He achieved
this through the Realistic Method in the Landscape
Moribana. This is a technique to express scenic
beauty by understanding the natural growth, environment,
and the seasonal aspect of the material and by
mixing in the subjectivity and impressions of
the arranger. It may be divided into three views:
Far, Middle and Near
The
exhibit follows this method. It represents an
ancient forest that exists at the foot of Mt.
Fuji, in Honshu, Japan. It mirrors the cycle of
regeneration existing in the natural world, with
colourful and seasonal accents that subtly serve
to make further reference to the transience of
life.
