" Friendship  through  Flowers "

At Ikebana Melbourne we base the running of our Chapter on the idea of "Friendship through Flowers". We meet monthly and conduct Ikebana workshops and other varied and interesting activities. Our Chapter is just one of many in the world with our headquarters in Japan.

The Yoka Hosono DVD In August this year, as part of the 2006 Australia–Japan Year of Exchange and with assistance from The Japan Foundation, Master Instructor Yoka Hosono was able to visit Melbourne from Sogetsu Headquarters Tokyo. The highlight or her visit was a Demonstration of Sogetsu Ikebana in the BMW Edge Auditorium, Federation Square, in the middle of Melbourne. There she was able to demonstrate ten arrangements ranging from traditional to freestyle, and from a small massed arrangement to a large full stage installation. The auditorium was filled for the occasion and the demonstrations were received with warmth and acclamation. It was one of the most successful occasions in the history of the Melbourne Chapter of Ikebana International. The performance was filmed in widescreen High Definition and is now available on DVD. It has relevance to all Ikebana members, and especially for teachers and students of the Sogetsu School. Master Hosono demonstrates with clarity principles and techniques and the filming is able to track these with many close-up shots. Her commentary and that of Danuta Paterson, Exhibition Chairman of Melbourne Chapter, add immeasurably to the understanding of the various arrangements. Technical Details The DVD is 84 minutes, recorded in Widescreen HD, PAL format, with commentary in English. (Note: most modern DVD recorders are able to play both PAL and NTSC.)
